LNNI Cross Border Collaboration and Learning
- LNNI have worked closely with colleagues from the HSE to develop stronger links with services located throughout Ireland, and particularly around the cross border area:
- The All Ireland conference on the 15th November 2017 is now fully booked, and will host the launch of the HSE Lymphoedema Service recommendations
- The education initiatives hosted by LNNI: “Tissue Manipulation” (Sept 17) and Klose Training’s Lymphoedema certification course (Oct 17), attracted delegates from across Ireland, and internationally, forging new networks.
- LNNI Lead, Jane Rankin, attended a meeting in Tipperary (Oct 17) and has been able to develop a list of therapists from the cross border area (individual permission provided for website publication)which is published in the “Referral” section.”

LNNI Team celebrate success at Regional AHP Awards, October 2017
BHSCT breast cancer and lymphoedema physiotherapist Laura Henry was listed as a finalist at the awards regarding her work to modernise the breast cancer pre-habilitation/rehabilitation pathway. This was completed with support from colleagues Diane Wilson (PT), Mairead McAloon (OT) and Cancer Coach, Will Moore. The new approach has helped many people become more empowered in their care and able to self-refer into the physiotherapy and OT services.
The LNNI project team also had success for Jill Hamilton (WHSCT), Laura Henry (BHSCT), Elaine McNeill (SEHSCT) and Cheryl McKee(SEHSCT) who were all finalists in the poster presentation awards.”
Inaugural All Ireland Lymphoedema Conference, 15th November 2017, Dromantine Conference Centre
LNNI and the HSE collaborated to hold the first All-Ireland conference on 15th November 2017 in Dromantine Conference Centre. Feedback has been extremely positive and has also provided thoughts for the next shared event! A secondary outcome was the fantastic opportunity to network, and the conference certainly had a buzz of excitement as we all look to the future of lymphoedema care provision across the Island of Ireland!
The 2 keynote speakers, Professor Christine Moffatt and Ms Karen Morgan shared their learning and helped inspire the conference regarding data sets, managing the impact of obesity linked lymphoedema and engaging with community colleagues regarding the management of lymphorrhea. The LNNI team presented on current work projects, and the HSE lymphoedema project provided feedback regarding progress to date and the procurement exercise. The conference had 90 delegates and representation from 9 corporate stakeholders.
Lymphoedema support and information service for Ireland
Lymphoedema Ireland (formerly Irish Lymphoedema Support Network) was founded in 1995. Our volunteer network offers support, help and information to anyone in Ireland affected with lymphoedema.
Membership is open to anyone who suffers from lymphoedema, their family and friends and those with an interest in furthering the aims of the network. All members will be circulated regarding the activities of the group.
We are always keen to get more people involved and, to get feedback on how our activities are benefiting our members. If you would like to get involved with the work of the committee or you have some suggestions about how we can improve the organisation, please contact us.
Lymphoedema Ireland activities are organised and managed by a small committee of volunteers who work hard to respond to the needs of our members.
